Hours & pay calculator

Work out paid time and agreed earnings. No account, no spreadsheet.

To calculate pay from hours worked, convert the minutes to a fraction of an hour (minutes ÷ 60), add the whole hours, then multiply by the hourly rate. If you only know the start and finish times, subtract the start from the finish and take off any unpaid break first.

Example 7 hours 30 minutes × $25/hour = $187.50 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5, so 7 h 30 min is 7.5 hours. 7.5 × $25 = $187.50.

THE MATH, MADE SIMPLE

Get the time right before calculating pay

A clock time and a duration are different things. If a person works from 08:00 to 16:30, the shift lasts eight hours and thirty minutes. Subtracting a 30-minute unpaid break leaves eight paid hours. At an agreed $25 per hour, the base earning is $200.

Hours and minutes are not decimal hours

Seven hours and thirty minutes is 7.5 hours, because 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5. Entering 7.30 as a decimal means seven hours and eighteen minutes. Use the separate hours and minutes fields above when you want to avoid that conversion.

EXAMPLE7 hours 30 minutes × $25/hour = $187.50

7 + (30 ÷ 60) = 7.5 paid hours. Then 7.5 × $25 = $187.50.

What about overnight work?

Choose “Use start & finish” and select “Finish is the next day.” For example, 22:00 to 06:00 is eight hours before breaks. This clock-time tool does not resolve daylight-saving changes. If a shift crosses one, verify the actual elapsed time before calculating the earning.

Amounts are estimates of entered agreements. This tool does not transfer money, calculate taxes, or certify pay-rule compliance.
