Minutes ÷ 60 turns clock time into decimal hours
Timesheets and pay calculations often want hours as a decimal number, but people naturally write time as hours and minutes. The two look alike and are easy to confuse: 7:30 on a clock is 7.5 hours, while 7.30 as a decimal is 7 hours 18 minutes. Convert first, then multiply by the rate.
30 ÷ 60 = 0.5, so 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 decimal hours. At $25 an hour that is 7.5 × $25 = $187.50, not 7.30 × $25 = $182.50.

Rounding is a choice, not a rule
Two decimal places is enough for most pay calculations, but 7 hours 20 minutes is really 7.333…, so a rounded value can be a cent or two off over a long week. The hours calculator keeps the exact minutes and rounds only the final amount; use it when you want the pay figure rather than the decimal.
